Tampere – The City

Tampere is a dynamic and scenic city in southern Finland, nestled between two lakes—Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi. Known for its rich industrial heritage and vibrant cultural scene, Tampere offers a unique combination of natural beauty and urban sophistication. The city is divided in two by the Tammerkoski rapids, which define the city center with a national landscape of red-brick buildings and atmospheric lighting.

As the third largest city in Finland, Tampere is home to over 255,000 inhabitants. With a total area of 689 km²—of which 164 km² is water—it provides a perfect setting for walking, exploring, and innovation.

Tampere’s industrial history is anchored by the Finlayson cotton factory, the first large-scale industrial company in Finland, which helped shape the city's development. Today, Tampere continues to be a hub of technology and innovation, producing world-class breakthroughs that improve everyday life.

The city also stands out as a center for culture, theatre, and design. It is the proud home of the world’s only Moomin Museum and offers a welcoming and accessible atmosphere that blends academic strength, technological excellence, and creative energy.

Tampere is a friendly and accessible destination for both tourists and professionals. Its strong academic and technological ecosystem, paired with a relaxed atmosphere, makes it an ideal location for international conferences and events.
