The Journal of the European Optical Society – Rapid Publications (JEOS-RP) is pleased to highlight a selection of five outstanding articles that reflect excellence, originality, and impact across the field of optics and photonics.

We are delighted to announce these five papers selected as the Best JEOS-RP Papers of 2025, as chosen by the JEOS-RP NOS Advisory Board. These contributions showcase both fundamental advances and applied innovations, and demonstrate the high scientific quality of work published in the journal JEOS-RP.
 

Looking back at the past year, I have to proudly acknowledge that the European Optical Society (EOS) continues to grow in strength, reach, and relevance within the global optics and photonics community. The 2025 edition of EOSAM, held last August in the vibrant city of Delft, confirmed the continuous improvement of our flagship event with time. EOSAM in Delft drew an enthusiastic and diverse audience. Attendees praised the rich and varied program, which combined high-quality scientific content with unique opportunities to exchange ideas. The structure of the event—bringing together Tutorials, impressive plenary sessions and high-quality and timely topical meetings and special sessions—allowed participants to navigate topics across the full breadth of optics and photonics. A particular highlight was the joint session organized with the Chinese Optical Society (COS), which also played as a productive testbed for deeper cooperation with partner societies. In an increasingly interconnected scientific world, EOS sees this type of collaboration as essential for fostering global innovation and strengthening international ties.

We are delighted to announce the appointments of Muriel Botey and Azzedine Boudrioua by the EOS, as new Topical Editors of The Journal of the European Optical Society – Rapid Publications (JEOS-RP). They join the current team of Topical Editors and work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to the peer-review process of the articles submitted to JEOS-RP.  Depending on the theme of the submitted article, the Editor-in-Chief selects the Topical Editor who will handle the peer-review process. As per the recommendations made by at least two reviewers, the Topical Editor proposes a decision to the Editor-in-Chief who retains the ultimate responsibility for accepting or rejecting the paper.
